The Senior Life Foundation is always pleased to be able to help low-income seniors with their emergency or crisis situations since that it the very purpose of our existence. Stories best tell our story of our mission.

Recently, one of our caring volunteers took a call from a senior in her mid-70s who survives on an extremely modest income of just over $700 a month. While raising two grandchildren, she is taking computer classes so she can better her situation. She was asking for a stove, since all she had was a small microwave to prepare meals for the family. Due to two conscientious Senior Life Foundation volunteers, a new stove, still in its box, was found and they had it delivered to her very quickly. The key to SLF's uniqueness is its ability to respond to requests in a timely manner. The senior was overwhelmed and most grateful. The volunteers were equally grateful they were able to help her.

In another case, an electric meter reader approached a 101-year-old, who was in jeopardy of having her electric turned off because she was responsible for repairs on her meter. She wasn't able to afford to do so, but the reader went out of his way to call an individual he felt could possibly find someone who could help so he wouldn't have to disconnect her power. Luckily, the person he called was a member of the SLF board who realized our agency was just the one to help since we
could respond immediately. We did and the centenarian was able to stay in her home and to remain in comfort during this particularly cold weather we've been having. This is the type of caring teamwork ---a person who sees a need and does something about it, an activist who knew what to do to resolve the problem and an agency that responds by helping a person overcome a serious emergency--- that it takes to help men and women who come to the winter of their lives needing help from caring people. And it takes supporters of the Senior Life Foundation to make it possible to respond to such needs.
